From public at lists.fcn.ca Wed Jul 15 19:07:58 2009 From: public at lists.fcn.ca (public@lists.fcn.ca) Date: Wed Jul 15 19:10:50 2009 Subject: [FCN Announcements] An exciting possibility (no. 1, part 1) Message-ID: <20090715230758.1217020513@mail.fcn.ca> This is the first of several messages about important (and unique) events coming from the FCN. -------- What would you do if you could have a portion of your monthly expenses on food, gasoline, and other times donated to the FCN *without any additional expense on your part*? I'll tell you what many FCN directors did: they enrolled in the program! A government-sponsored program will donate about 3% of many monthly expenses to the FCN from anyone who enrols. Sounds good, doesn't it! We'll send details in the next message. All you do is sign up, and a long-time charity service does the rest. You just buy your groceries etc. as you usually do: nothing more than that! ---- Like many organizations, the FCN could use this help. There are many things we'd like to do but can't because of lack of funds. Here's a small sample of those things: 1. Purchase promotional or sale materials, to make your organization more visible. 2. Revise the Canadian guide to naturism and keep lists of beach locations up to date. 3. Revamp the FCN's website to make it a powerhouse for naturism, including much more in events, ideas, discussions, and advice. 4. Promote naturism in your region, with local seminars or festivals. 5. Increase circulation of the magazine Going Natural / Au naturel. 6. Hire a staff person to co-ordinate FCN operations, including membership growth, public requests, accounting, publicity, and project development. All this and still more are possible if we can improve our financial base. And you can help! --- as stated, by spending not a cent more than you usually do but by simply signing up for a program that FCN directors are in right now. Details will be in the next message from us, in a few hours. Stand by . . . 'cause if you want to get in on this for the month of August (great idea!), you have to act **BY JULY 20.** We value your support of the FCN and invite your help to make this organization even stronger. From public at lists.fcn.ca Wed Jul 15 21:49:42 2009 From: public at lists.fcn.ca (public@lists.fcn.ca) Date: Wed Jul 15 21:52:59 2009 Subject: [FCN Announcements] An exciting possibility (no. 1, part 2) Message-ID: <20090716014942.265461221@mail.fcn.ca> This is the second of several messages about important (and unique) events coming from the FCN. -------- A short time ago, we wrote: "What would you do if you could have a portion of your monthly expenses on food, gasoline, and other times donated to the FCN *without any additional expense on your part*? I'll tell you what many FCN directors did: they enrolled in the program!" We also listed some things the FCN could do with more funding. All you do to help is sign up, and a long-time charity service does the rest. You shop for your groceries etc. as you usually do. The charity service issues cards or certificates which you use as cash, at most grocery store chains in Canada, most gas station chains, and some drugstores. How you pay is the only difference, not how much. You pay for those cards/certificates by withdrawal from your bank account. This is completely safe; the FCN has verified it, and its directors are using it! ---- The website of the government-sponsored organization running this is: , which I will refer to as CCS. The FCN is registered with it. Please do the following: *1* Watch the video: http://www.charityservices.ca/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=15 *2* You need to commit a minimum of $250 in *grocery* spending monthly to join the program. Purchasing gasoline or similar fuel is optional, on top of the grocery purchases. *3* The relevant store chains are listed on the participant form: https://www.charityservices.ca/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=17 Note that some non-grocery stores are listed in the grocery section, such as Tim Hortons and Shoppers Drug Mart. *4* Please fill out the participant form. And submit it on CCS's website by the 20th of July if you can. (Don't use the .doc version to send as an e-mail attachment.) Each participant may designate only one organization. Please write the full "Federation of Canadian Naturists" at the top, opposite "Charity/ Non-profit group you are supporting." *5* You use a card like cash until its balance reaches zero. The certificates are simply used for their face value, and you can get up to $5 in change from them. Gas cards may be swiped at stations like credit cards. *6* Each month, CCS sends you the card/s and/or certificates you ordered when you signed up. They come by insured mail. You may change your order by phone, e-mail, or fax before the 20th of any month (for the next month). *7* Each monthly card and certificate you receive is valid for *two years.* Anyone may use yours (household members, friends, etc.). Treat them like cash! *8* Please note the options and choose accordingly: 8A. The options to pay for the cards/certificates from CCS are by pre- authorized payment (bank withdrawals) or by cheque (postdated cheques). Credit cards are not an option. 8B. Bank withdrawals are the most convenient. Please indicate "Pre- authorized payment," then "Full amount on 1st of month" if you can. Payment of bank charges for multiple withdrawals in a month cuts into what the FCN receives. ---- That's all! Ask questions if you wish, of me (see below) or of ; or phone them at 866-669-2276 or 519-669-1081 and ask for Heather Weber. This is a great way to benefit the FCN monthly without spending any additional money! PLEASE SIGN UP BY JULY 20 if you can, to be eligible for the program in early August. But the program is ongoing (until you cancel it). So if you're late, you'll still be helping the FCN, just a month later. If you sign up, please let us know that you did (no other details needed), at the e-mail address: . It's going digital! What does that mean? First of all, it doesn't mean the end of the paper magazine. It's still printed every quarter of the year in the high quality you expect. But now we launch digital editions of the magazine! These are not files placed on a website. They're downloadable, integrated, interactive issues offering more than the print edition. For example, every web and e-mail link in the magazine is live: you click on it and away you go to that address. The Table of Contents is live too. Click on an article there and get whisked away to the page it starts on. Want to search for a word in the magazine? That'll be easy now. This format also allows magnification. Need to read an article in bigger type? Just click on a page. What's more, we can now include video and audio files. You'll find these in future issues. Naturist video in the magazine! We always value the security of our contributors. The digital edition can't be copied. It may be printed, although the regular print magazine will be higher in quality. ---- Worldwide, digital magazine editions are increasing at a fast rate. Digital readers (which aren't required to read our magazine) are proliferating. The possibilities for this medium seem endless, and gN/aN is getting in on them near the beginning. It's one of very few naturist magazines to do so. We expect it now to reach a whole new audience. It'll be hosted and sold by Zinio (www.zinio.com), a leader in this technology. On its site, anyone will be able to see sample pages of a magazine issue for free at any time. The cost of a digital subscription will be lower than of a print subscription. Meanwhile, we're looking into ways of giving print subscribers access to the digital edition. In a future message, we'll tell you more, including where you may find the current (summer 2009) issue of the magazine, when it's available (which isn't quite yet). If you have questions about any of this, let me know. Spread the word! And stand by for the next message with more details. Paul Rapoport Co-Editor Going Natural / Au naturel Federation of Canadian Naturists From public at lists.fcn.ca Fri Jul 24 12:13:50 2009 From: public at lists.fcn.ca (public@lists.fcn.ca) Date: Fri Jul 24 12:17:54 2009 Subject: [FCN Announcements] Another exciting development (no. 2, part 2) Message-ID: <20090724161350.2084212128@mail.fcn.ca> Last week we announced a major development for the FCN's 24-year-old magazine Going Natural / Au naturel. It's going digital! The print edition remains, and the digital edition can't be copied electronically. But readers of the digital edition may enjoy live links, video and audio (starting in the fall issue), zoom, searches on keywords, and of course just reading the magazine without using paper and ink. How to find and subscribe to the digital edition is indicated below. But first, we tell you about another exciting aspect of this. Every digital magazine has a preview mode, where you may see pages in a small size (slightly too small to read) and zoom in on a few to read them as samples. The problem here was the nudity in most of the photos. After several discussions among the American host retailer of the digital magazine, its Canadian distributor (who was heavily on our side), and gN/aN, it was finally agreed that gN/aN would be treated the same as Time or Macleans. No pixellation, no black bars, no restrictions at all. This is a clear advance for naturist publishing: a major electronic retailer in the USA is not going to censor naturist photos, is not going to warn readers about them, and is giving a naturist magazine the full privileges of any mainstream publication. ---- We expect that subscribers to the paper edition will be able to read the digital issues at full size, although that's not possible yet. We encourage, however, all present and future readers of the magazine to visit its digital edition online. Those who aren't subscribers may purchase the magazine in its digital edition now, at a cost notably lower than that of the paper edition for both single copies and an annual subscription. And there's no waiting for something in the mail. ---- To see the digital edition of the June 2009 issue of Going Natural / Au naturel, go here: http://ca.zinio.com/browse/publications/? productId=500260036&offer=500107013&bd=1 The general site for the many digital magazines sold by this retailer is here: http://www.zinio.com From there you will be able to find gN/aN in the Special Interest category, as well as the Canada section. Shortly the magazine should be findable by the search function. The Zinio site also provides free reader software for purchased issues or subscriptions. ***Please note that buying the digital edition via the FCN site (or the first, longer link above) returns more money to the FCN.
