We are sad to announce the end of Ontario's oldest naturist club.
Effective October 1st, Glen Echo Family Nudity Club will be closed.
The property has been sold to an individual as a private residence.
Members received the following letter this week:
Glen Echo Park, Inc
15400 7th Conc, RR 2
Kettleby ON LOG 1JO

Dear Members:
As we are all aware, the passage of time forces us to confront certain
decisions. That time has come for us, Mary and me, and with sadness in
our
hearts, we regret to inform you that Glen Echo will close its doors to
our
friends as of October 1,2009. Our regrets come from the fact that for a
period of 5 years, we actively tried to sell Glen Echo to a party that
would
continue the naturist tradition of Glen Echo. A listing with a major
real
estate firm resulted in no offers. Other offers were inadequate and
not in the
best interest of Glen Echo and us. As we reached and passed retirement
age,
we were compelled to sell Glen Echo, in spite of our deepest desire to
see
Glen Echo continue as a naturist park. It is this fact that causes us
our
greatest regret.
This wonderful property of rolling hills and lush forest inspired us
to create
Glen Echo, a haven for fellow naturists and a home for us. From its
humble
beginnings, through our efforts, and those of the founding members, Glen
Echo has been an Eden for the past 54 years.
Now we thank and express our gratitude to all who have been part of the
Glen Echo family, from the founding members to each of you today who
have enjoyed the Glen Echo experience.
All members entitled to a refund for the annual fees paid, will
receive the
refund as soon as possible.
May God bless each and every one of you.
Sincerely,
Mary and Edward Todorowsky
Many Glen Echo members are being forced to abandon cabins that were
built over the years. Some people have complained that the thousands
of dollars they recently invested in the infrastructure around their
cabin and trailer is now lost. Given minimal notice they received,
they explain they have little choice but to take their personal
possessions and abandon the rest.
While naturists in the Toronto area have 3 other clubs as options,
most have limited space, if any, for permanent campsites. Contrary to
recent media reports, naturist parks that are staying current and
promoting themselves have had no trouble attracting membership. Former
members also have the option of joining one of three non-landed clubs
or frequenting a legal nude beach on the Toronto Islands. Details at: http://www.fcn.ca/ontclubs.html
Even sadder is the fact that some members grew up at Glen Echo while
others raised their children and grandchildren there. For them, an
important part of their life will now disappear forever.
